Budget Cuts: Which is right and which is wrong?
How would you feel if you suddenly lose some of the benefits you used to have when the economy wasn’t in the crisis? Because of the downfall of the economy, the government proposes budget cuts plan and this cause panic to people in the United States. The Democrats and the Republicans have different ideas about what to cut in California. It seems like they want to cut some of the public services like school, senior services and healthy family program, and some other public programs. I strongly disagree with the cuts. Budget cut in school will force teachers to be layoff.
The Republican wants to have a budget cut on education program, and the Democrats seem to go along with this cut. They want to restore the educational money that is being cut when the economy is rebounds. I strongly oppose this cut. School budget cut will force some of the teachers to be layoff. When there are not enough teachers in school, students will be cram into a small classroom with only one teacher. Do you think students will get a good education out of such environment like that? I don’t think they will. The classroom atmosphere will more likely be social surrounding than an educational environment. Students who want to learn won’t be able to learn with many students who are apathy about learning. It will affect the outcome of those hardworking students, in public schools as well as in junior colleges. Moreover, it will get college students in debts. Along with school, there will be a cut in senior services.
Democrats include senior services in their budget cut plan. Imagine if your mother or your father is a senior, how do you feel when you find out that some of their benefits will be taken away? Of course, you’ll be upset. It’s another form of discrimination. Just because they are seniors, because they are old and will soon die, they will be cut from some of the benefits they used to receive. That’s unreasonable. They had to pay tax when they were working at their young age just like every single person who lives in this nation. They deserve to get some advantages for those working hours in their lives. No one has the right to take away benefits from seniors. Other nations will disgrace us, will disgust us, and will look at us as betrayers. They’ll think that we only use people to make profit for the country; and when they are useless, we don’t even care about them. Is that what you want other countries to look at us? If not, then we shouldn’t have this cut. Seniors and children were the people need the most care. Not only they plan to cut senior services, but the Democrats also want to cut healthy family program.
Healthy family program is a program which provides subsided medical coverage for hundreds of thousands of poor children. As you may already knew that the world is in an economy crisis. Many businesses are going bankrupt or going out of business. This means, there are many people out there who will lose their current jobs, and will hardly find a job within a short period of time due to this economy crisis. It’s not that hard for wealthy families and those middle-class families to pay for medical expenses, but what about those labor-class families? It’s inevitable for people to not get medicine or not go to see doctors when they are sick. If the Democrats cut this program, the children of those working-class won’t be able to pay for the medical expenses, especially in this situation where majority people are losing their jobs. Not only children who have family will suffer, but what about those orphans in the orphanages? They need this program in this time more than you can imagine because they don’t have parents to support them. Health is money, or even more valuable. We need these children to make a difference in the future; therefore, we must take care of them.
Public services such as schools, senior services and health services for poor children shouldn’t be cut. School is a place where a country can turn ordinary kids into talented people with best environment and complete educational materials. Seniors earn their enjoyable life and services as rewards for their many years of hard work and contributions to the country. Children are one nation’s future, so they need extra care. Depriving some of these public services is barbaric. United States was once known as the best medical provider as well as educational system compares to other countries in the world, and people are proud to be here. But if we cut these systems, they will be upset, and the country will soon turns out to be chaotic because of all the disagreements and protests among groups of people.

  1. I think that you have a very strong and valid point which you support. I especially like how you ask questions to the reader like "how would you feel..." Just something I'd suggest is re read it and fix spelling or grammatical errors. Maybe something just to keep in mind is to expand more on certain things we should cut that are not schools, and medical needs which are important for all of us. Try to think of an alternative. I felt you explained really well in the paragraph about the family health program and how orphans greatly need this program. Very well articulated!

  2. I like how you structured your paragraph, however there are some grammer errors. One suggestion I would like to make is maybe read over your work or have someone else read it for you that way they find your mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes its good for someone else to point them out that way you know for next time.

  3. I agree with Andrew, you have a very strong point. I liked how you started with a question, It makes the reader think about the topic before reading about it. I would re-read and fix some grammar. Other then that you put a lot of emphasis in your essay.
